    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  

    The Capitol Curator manages displays of art, artifacts, and interpretive material in the Capitol. They work with stakeholders and partners at the Federal, State, and local levels to curate exhibits for the Capitol Gallery.  Responsible for updating and maintaining interpretive exhibits, and managing the rotation of artwork in public spaces and elected officials' offices.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
    • Leverage relationships across the state to bring the highest quality art and exhibits to the Capitol.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures, budgets, planning, and information
      processes as well as research and development of all aspects of exhibit projects.
    • Negotiate and develop exhibit contracts and loans.
    • Design exhibit layout and lead installation.
    • Research the history of the Capitol and art within the Capitol complex.
    • Secure funding through grants and private donors to support exhibits.
    • Organize events, receptions, and lectures to support exhibits.
    • Update interactive exhibits with the most relevant content.
    • Monitor interpretive exhibits for damage or malfunction and arrange for repair when
      necessary.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for exhibit service contracts.
    • Repair and reset exhibits when necessary.
    • Direct and supervise consultants.
    • Monitor environmental conditions and security of art and artifacts in the Capitol.
    • Arrange for the annual rotation of artwork in elected officials' offices through the CAPA program.
    • Install artwork and respond to calls for assistance with art from offices.
    • Secure loans of art for long-term display in public areas of the capitol and establish a rotation schedule.
    • Review proposals for exhibits in the Capitol Gallery and make recommendations to the exhibits committee.
    • Review proposals for temporary exhibits elsewhere in the Capitol and make
      recommendations to SCD and SBC.
    • Review proposed donations of art and artifacts to the Capitol and make recommendations to the acquisitions committee.
    • Serve on any committees set up to create new exhibits or commission art for the Capitol.
